The NCECP Distance Education Program brings quality education and training to the doorsteps of Early Childhood Professionals across the country. With Distance Education, training is available at any time and in any location.  All of the courses offer students a wide range of learning experiences and provide multiple opportunities to demonstrate acquired knowledge.

One Step Support

Every student in our program receives one-on-one support to help with individual learning needs. Instructors work with students via the telephone and/or e-mail whenever needed during the training experience.

How Does Distance Education Work?

Our Distance Education Courses may be taken to earn early childhood Professional Development Points (PDPs), Continuing Education Units (CEUs), Training Hours (THs) or simply to fulfill an interest. Every student in the program receives instructor support via email whenever needed during their training experience. 
After filling out the application, a Distance Education Packet will be shipped to you and inside will be the instructor’s name and contact information.

  Supervision & Administration of Early Childhood Programs #301.1

This course covers components essential for the successful operation of any early childhood education program. Topics include Home/School Relationships, Avoiding Burn-out, and Supervision/Staff Development.
 

  Preschool Curriculum  #301.2  

This course presents curriculum frameworks for preschool age children (2.9-5 years) including cognitive, physical, emotional, and social development. Students will learn about such topics as Developmentally Appropriate Practices, Philosophy & Goals, Room Arrangements and more.
 

    Revised and Reformatted for 2007Infant and Toddler Curriculum  #301.4

This course presents a curriculum framework for infants' and toddlers' cognitive, physical, emotional and social development.  Students will learn about such topics as Developmentally Appropriate Practices, Observation, Philosophy, and Goals, Room Arrangements, Parent/Teacher relations and more.  This course is appropriate for all early childhood educators who work with infants and toddlers.

Child Guidance #401.1
  (Behavior Management)Revised and Reformatted for 2007

This course provides information about the stresses and supports children's experiences in today's society.  Based on an understanding of the condition of children in an adult focused society, the course provides a theoretical framework of behavior management as well as strategies to prevent and respond to behavior in a manner that will provide positive guidance and limit setting.  This course is appropriate for all early childhood educators; family and center based programs, as well as public and private school teachers working with children through grade three.

Revised and Reformatted for 2007The Inclusive Classroom #401.2

This course covers the strategies for working with children with special needs in an early childhood setting. Students will have the opportunity to learn the skills necessary to transform their classroom(s) into an effective learning environment that meets the academic and social needs of all children. Specific areas covered include learning centers, fine and gross motor skills, circle, transition and snack times.

  The Physical Environment (Indoors)  #101.1
  Currently being updated

This course includes a video, text books and related articles on the physical environment.  Students will learn how to assess a classroom based on the needs and perspectives of children and adults, become familiar with academic resources available on indoor learning settings and materials, conduct an assessment and make changes in a manner that will educate others about how and why changes are made.
 

  Effective Communication With Parents  #101.2

This course includes a video and text that focus on developing effective communication skills between educators and parents.  Students will learn strategies for listening  and understanding issues from the perspective of parents, how to assess their own communication styles, and new communication tools. The shared goal is to provide the best quality care for the child.
 

  Revised and Reformatted for 2007Music and Movement in Early Childhood Programs  #101.3

Students will learn the benefits of music and movement and how to incorporate music and movement into their everyday curriculum for all children to enjoy.  Students will also learn activities that promote positive growth and development for typically developing children and those within restricted mobility.  Appropriate for all early childhood educators who work with preschool age children.
 

  Nutrition: The Early Years-Birth Through Age 6  #101.4

This course will allow the student to assess the dietary needs of children in their care, implement a food program that meets all of the dietary requirements of children through age 6 and identify valuable resources.  This course is designed to meet the training and certification needs of early childhood educators as well as parents.  Home providers who participate in a food service program will meet 10 hours of the required training mandated by their provider.
 

  Creating Learning Materials from Recyclables  #201.1

This course covers the educational and environmental benefits of using recycled materials in your home or classroom. Students will engage in projects that will demonstrate first hand how to use recycled items as learning materials, expand their knowledge of recycled resources and learn about important issues such as storage and parents involvement.  Appropriate for the Family Day Care provider and Infant/Toddler or Preschool Teachers, as well as public and private school teachers working with children through grade three.
  

  Multicultural Education in Early Childhood Programs  #201.2
  Currently being updated

Students who take this course assess their own attitudes, values, beliefs and practices concerning multicultural education. Students will learn an active approach to multicultural education, including critically assessing a classroom environment and developing goals and objectives for implementing assessment based changes.  Appropriate for Family Day Care Providers and Intant/Toddler and Preschool Teachers as well as public and private school teachers working with children though Grade 3.

General Information 

Our Distance Education Program offers a high quality, affordable training option that is literally brought to your doorstep. The courses may be taken to earn early childhood Professional Development Points (PDPs), Continuing Education Units (CEUs), Training Hours (THs), or, simply to fulfill an interest.  We are confident that whatever your motive is, you will find our courses to be insightful and educationally satisfying. Every student in the program receives instructor support via email whenever needed during their training experience. All assignments must be submitted electronically and a basic level of computer knowledge including word processing is required. The privilege to submit assignments in any other format (mail or fax) must be pre-approved by the NCECP and will result in additional pre-paid charges over and above the published course fee.

 

Tuition and Fees (effective 01/01/09)

NCECP courses that offer up to 45 PDPs/Training Hours or 4.5 CEUs are $300.00.

NCECP courses that offer up to 10 PDPs/Training Hours or 1 CEU are $100.00. 

All courses include the loan of a DVD, video, texts, and a course packet that provides step by step instruction for course assignments. Students are responsible for course work not turned in within the appropriate time frame.
Failure to adhere to the course schedule will result in a late fee of $5.00 per day.
Student’s who return materials late are charged a late fee of $5.00 per day billed directly to their credit card.

Course materials not returned to NCECP after a ten-day delinquency period will result in NCECP billing the student’s credit card for the cost of the course materials in addition to the 10-day late fee charges.

Cancellation Policy—If an order is cancelled BEFORE the course is shipped, a full refund will be issued to the card holder. If the order is cancelled AFTER the student has received the materials, a credit with NCECP towards a future course will be issued to the card holder/student. The credit will be honored for up to 2 years from the original enrollment date. If course fees increase in that timeframe, the student will be obligated to submit the additional amount.

With Instructor and NCECP approval, I may be allowed to temporarily interrupt my course, return all materials and resume the course at a later date utilizing whatever time remains from the 63 days allowed by contract PLUS cover the cost of re-shipping & returning to NCECP via UPS. This $50 charge will be billed directly to my credit card provided.

If I do not complete the required coursework within the contracted 21 or 63 days, there is no option to submit assignments in the future. I must return all materials, re-enroll in the course, pay the required fee entitling me to another 21 or 63 days in which to earn my Certificate.

Replacement cost for 101&201 courses is $290.00 per course, 301&401 courses is $495.00 per course. 

Expectations

The courses were developed by experienced early childhood college instructors on a post-secondary level courses require students to implement activities and assignments with children from Infancy to Grade 3..  They are geared for self motivated individuals with solid academic skills who work with children from infancy through third-grade.

Students are expected to submit coursework at 2-week intervals (or sooner) to ensure sufficient time for Instructor feed-back and completion of assignment(s) and return of course materials within the 63 days allowed per signed enrollment form/contract.

Instructors will respond within 48 hours (unless otherwise arranged) to assignments submitted in accordance with this 2-week interval plan. Those not adhering to this policy or who submit assignments “out of order” risk delayed input based on the Instructors’ obligations to other students in compliance. This may further result in Late Fees of $5 per day billed directly to the student’s credit card.

To earn PDPs, Training Hours or CEUs, students must demonstrate a minimum of 80% competency via their course work.  Coursework must be complete, accurate, professional in presentation, typewritten and free of errors. Check the course descriptions to make sure your course selection is appropriate for your needs.  Students must contact his or her instructor upon receipt of the course.

Terms & Conditions

The costs of the Distance Education courses, which include door to door shipping and handling, must be paid up front.  Students are required to secure their Distance Education participation with a credit card and agree to pay for any lost, damaged, late or non-returned materials.

Course offerings 101&201 are loaned for a maximum of 21 days.
Course offerings 301&401 are loaned for a maximum of 63 days.
     Each module must be turned in within a 2-week time frame.
